기술 진보, PC 시장의 지형 변화, 새로운 엔터프라이즈 서버 및 스토리지 아키텍처, 그리고 단기적인 하드 디스크 드라이브(HDD) 부족 등의 요인이 결합, 전세계 솔리드 스테이트 스토리지(SSD) 시장이 2011년부터 2015년까지 높은 성장세를 보일 전망이다. IDC의 최신 연구조사에 따르면, 전세계 SSD 산업은 매출액 기준으로 2011년 50억달러를 기록, 2010년의 24억달러 대비 105% 성장했다. IDC는 SSD 시장이 2012년 및 이후에도 더욱 확대될 것으로 보고 있다.

3분기 전세계 미디어 태블릿 출하대수 예상보다 저조

2011년 3분기 전세계 미디어 태블릿 출하대수는 1,810만대를 기록, 전분기대비 23.9% 증가한 것으로 IDC의 Worldwide Quarterly Media Tablet and eReader Tracker 연구조사 결과 나타났다. 이는 전년 동분기 대비 264.5% 증가했지만, 당초 예상됐던 1,920만대 보다는 5.8% 낮은 수치이다. 예상보다 조금 저조했던 3분기 결과에도 불구, IDC는 4분기에 높은 수요가 있을 것으로 보고 2011년 전체 출하대수 전망을 당초 6,250대에서 6,330만대로 상향 조정했다.

Apple이 3분기 전세계 미디어 태블릿 출하량을 지속적으로 주도하면서 전분기의 930만대 보다 높은 1,110만대를 출하했다. 이로써 전세계 출하량의 61.5%를 차지했다(2분기 점유율은 63.3%). HP는 TouchPad 제품으로 3분기 시장에 진입했으나 곧 사업을 접었다. 점유율 5%에 해당하는 903,354대를 출하했고, 점유율 5.6%를 차지한 Samsung에 이어 3위를 기록했다. 한편 IDC가 택소노미(taxonomy)를 업데이트한 이후 미디어 태블릿의 범주가 Barnes & Nobles의 Nook Color와 같은 LCD 기반 디바이스로 확장됐다. Barnes & Noble의 출하량은 805,458대, 점유율은 4.5% 로 4위에 올랐다. ASUS는 점유율 4% 로 5위를 차지했다.

전세계 외장 디스크 스토리지 6분기 연속 두자릿수 성장

IDC의 Worldwide Quarterly Disk Storage Systems Tracker 연구조사 결과, 2011년 3분기 전세계 외장 디스크 스토리지 시장이 매출 기준으로 전년동기대비 10.8% 성장한 것으로 나타났다. 매출 규모는 58억 달러에 조금 못미치는 57억 6700만 달러를 기록했다.

3분기 전체 디스크 스토리지 시장은 매출액 측면에서 76억달러 규모를 기록하며 전년동기대비 8.5% 성장했다. 또한 출하된 전체 디스크 스토리지 용량은 5,429 페타바이트로, 전년동기대비 30.7% 증가한 것으로 조사됐다.

2011년 3분기 전세계 서버 시장 매출 4.2% 성장한 127억달러 기록

IDC의 Worldwide Quarterly Server Tracker 연구에 따르면, 2011년 3분기 전세계 서버 매출(factory revenue)이 전년동기대비 4.2% 성장한 127억달러를 기록했다. 이로써 매출액은 7분기 연속 전년대비 성장했으나, 2010년 1분기 회복 국면으로 전환된 이래로 가장 낮은 성장세를 보였다. 출하대수 면에서는 전년동기대비 4.0% 증가함으로써, 지난 2분기 8.7%라는 높은 성장 이후 완만한 성장세를 보였다.
