Philippe de Marcillac
Executive Vice President, International Business Units, IDC |
Philippe de Marcillac has more than 25 years of international experience in strategic business management and Information Communications and Technology (ICT) market research across the diverse markets of United States, Europe, and Asia.
As Executive Vice President for IDC's International Business Units, Philippe oversees IDC's International Group which includes the management of business and research operations in Canada, Latin America, Japan, and Asia/Pacific. He also has an advisory role for research operations in Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa (CEMA). Philippe is based in Hong Kong but he also maintains a base at IDC's head office in Framingham, Massachusetts and frequently travels through Asia/Pacific, Europe, and the Americas.
Well-known in the IT industry, Philippe's expertise lies in International Markets, PCs, Enterprise Systems and Solutions, and the ICT market research. He also focuses on emerging markets, particularly the large markets of Brazil, Russia, India, and China (BRIC), and dynamics around the movement of offshore IT delivery to BRIC and other locations.
Philippe first joined IDC in 1982 and launched IDC's first pan-European research services. During the last two years of his tenure with IDC in Europe, he managed IDC's European Research Centre. Prior to rejoining IDC in 1995, he was Vice President of Worldwide PC research at Dataquest.
Philippe graduated from Cambridge University in England with a Master's Degree in Natural Sciences. He is fluent in French and conversant in German. |

Frank Gens
Senior Vice President & Chief Analyst, IDC |
As IDC's Senior Vice President & Chief Analyst, Frank Gens guides IDC's research into broad IT industry trends, particularly the strategic adoption of technology by Global 2000 businesses and the industries in which they compete.
Mr. Gens is the producer of IDC eXchange (http://blogs.idc.com/ie), IDC¡¯s blog and podcast on the state and future of the IT industry, and is a frequent speaker at executive forums around the world. He is the author of IDC Predictions, the company's annual forecast of major changes in the global development and use of technology. Mr. Gens is a member of IDC's worldwide management team, a lead developer of IDC's global research architecture, and a member of IDC's Research Quality Board.
Mr. Gens is a 25 year veteran of the IT research and advisory services business, including over 15 years at IDC in a variety of senior roles, including leading IDC's end-user research business and developing IDC's global Internet research capabilities. He is well-known for his provocative and accurate forecasts of IT industry change, and the impact of those changes on business and industry.
In addition to research management roles, Mr. Gens' career includes senior positions in new product development and introduction, product management, marketing, business development, corporate development, and regional operations management. Prior to IDC, Mr. Gens held management positions at International Data Group (IDG), AMR Research and The Yankee Group. |

Jonathan Gaw
Research Manager, Consumer Markets: Home Networking, IDC |
Jonathan Gaw researches the dynamics of the emerging home networking market. His research covers home networking hardware and components, broadband service providers' home networking programs, networked digital consumer electronics, consumer attitudes toward and usage of home networks, subscribership and revenue for home networking-related services, and home automation, monitoring and control. Subjects include home networking demographics, vendor analysis, customer requirements and market forecasting and sizing. He also analyzes online consumer behavior and Internet portals, as they relate to home networking. Mr. Gaw is based in IDC's Silicon Valley office in Mountain View, California.
Prior to joining IDC, Mr. Gaw covered electronic commerce as a staff writer for the business section of the Los Angeles Times, reporting on trends and events in online retailing. He had covered the development of business on the Internet since 1994 and had been a journalist since 1989, writing for the Star Tribune in Minneapolis, where he wrote an online technology column, and The Plain Dealer in Cleveland, where he helped launch the newspaper¡¯s personal technology section.
Mr. Gaw earned his BA in government and public policy analysis from Pomona College in Claremont, California and has trained at the University of Missouri School of Journalism¡¯s Investigative Reporters and Editors, Inc. and the American Press Institute. |

Matthew Eastwood
Group Vice President, Enterprise Platforms Group, IDC |
Matthew Eastwood, Group Vice President of IDC¡¯s Enterprise Platform Group (EPG), leads a team of analysts responsible for identifying and analyzing vendor strategies, technology, market and customer trends affecting enterprise platforms worldwide. In this role he is responsible for managing market analysis, forecasting and consulting for servers, workstations, hardware channels, datacenter trends, virtualization software, systems management software and server & client operating environments worldwide. Additionally, Mr. Eastwood is also responsible for managing IDC's Enterprise IT Advisory Council which provides on-going insight into end-user technology and supplier perceptions including purchasing intent across the enterprise. Mr. Eastwood speaks frequently at IDC, industry, and customer events around the world and is frequently quoted in leading business and technology publications.
Mr. Eastwood provides in-depth market analysis, research, and consulting on key aspects of the server marketplace to both buyers and suppliers of technology. Also through his role, Mr. Eastwood has engaged clients, media and trade press through speaking events in North and South America, Europe and Asia. During his tenure at IDC, Mr. Eastwood has led IDC primary research focused on emerging trends in the enterprise systems market. In particular, this primary research allows IDC to make continual assessments regarding how enterprise customers are deploying server hardware in their data centers. Recent topics covered in Mr. Eastwood¡¯s research include: Power and Cooling, Green IT, Multi-core Servers, Server Virtualization, Server and Storage Workloads, Platform Migration, IT Consolidation and Server Clustering.
Prior to joining IDC, Mr. Eastwood worked as a senior project manager and consultant at Camp Dresser & McKee (CDM) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Mr. Eastwood was responsible for managing the planning and design of large environmental infrastructure projects including wastewater collection and treatment facilities. In addition, Mr. Eastwood served as Operations Manager of the firm¡¯s New England practice. In this capacity, he was responsible for monitoring financial performance, resource planning, and compensation on a regional basis.
Mr. Eastwood received a bachelor's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering from Northeastern University in Boston and earned his M.S. in Engineering Project Management from WPI in Worcester, MA. |

Eric Haruki
Research Director, TV Markets and Technologies, IDC |
Eric Haruki is the Research Director for IDC's TV Markets and Technologies service. He tracks and analyzes the worldwide LCD, Plasma, and Rear Projection digital television markets, its competitive landscape, and how evolving form factors are changing the face of the consumer television experience.
Mr. Haruki rejoined IDC in 2004, having spent two years with the company covering the monitors and projectors industries between 2001 and 2003. After leaving IDC in 2003, Mr. Haruki held a position with DTC Consulting, and later composed research papers for Hewlett Packard's Digital Projectors Division and for Pacific Media Associates.
Mr. Haruki originally came to IDC from ARS Research in La Jolla, CA, where he was a Senior Analyst covering the desktop display and projector industries. Prior to his work at ARS, Mr. Haruki was an analyst for Ziff Davis Market Intelligence, covering the PC peripheral and software industries. At Computer Intelligence (acquired by Ziff Davis in 1996), Mr. Haruki was a Territory Analyst, configuring custom mainframe databases to assist enterprise clients.
In addition to his expertise in the field of displays and projectors, Mr. Haruki is a formally trained chef. He's a graduate and class valedictorian of the San Diego Culinary Institute, and he has applied his craft at a number of fine dining restaurants throughout Southern California. Mr. Haruki holds a B.A. from Occidental College in Los Angeles, CA, where he majored in philosophy. |

Aloysius Choong
Research Manager, Asia/Pacific Personal Systems Research, IDC Asia/Pacific |
Aloysius Choong is a Research Manager at IDC's Asia/Pacific Personal Systems Group. In this role, he leads and coordinates the Asia/Pacific Mobile Devices research, focusing on data compilation and analysis, forecasting, competitive analysis, as well as advisory services across the region. A sought-after commentator on the mobile phone industry, Aloysius' views have appeared in various publications, including Bloomberg, Reuters and Singapore's Straits Times.
Prior to joining IDC, Aloysius was a Senior Journalist at CNET Networks (Asia-Pacific), where he covered the communications and security industry. Several of his commentaries, reviews and news pieces have been published in key regional and global media, such as CNET News.com, Silicon.com, as well as the online editions of USA Today and New York Times.

Soonyul Chang is the Analyst of Software research in IDC Korea, being responsible for in-depth research of software areas such as infrastructure management, security, operating system, and so on.
He transferred from the Consulting group in IDC Korea. He was responsible for managing customized consulting requirement from clients on IT service sector. His consulting areas include PC, Peripherals, Commercial Systems & Servers, Storage, Software, IT Services, Telecommunications & Data communications, and Internet. In his role, he coordinated consulting service with IDC regional & worldwide analysts.
Prior to joining IDC, Mr. Chnag was the Director of Consulting in EarlyExit for two years. His role was to identify, develop business strategy and fund the potential technology start-up companies; accelerate them to market; and prepare them for exit, and provide market research to define clients¡¯ potential market and develop their new business model. Prior to joining EarlyExit, Mr. Chang had managed a two-way business gateway between the U.S. and Korea as business-developing director of Korean Software Incubator (KSI), whose main role is to search, assess, develop, and provide facilities to enable small- and medium-sized Korean technology companies to launch their products and services in the U.S. market.
Previously, Mr. Chang worked for the technical consulting area and provided information technology consulting services to small and medium businesses in system integration of hardware, software and computer networking area
He has received a B.A. degree in Management Information System from the San Jose State University in San Jose, California. |
